The Basis: Autodesk® Revit® Structure

The idea to support the building process with a unique data model to integrate aspects of architecture, engineering and the construction industry is quite old. Most attempts however failed as the underlying data structure was not able to represent all aspects from the first design to lifecycle management. Using the Building Information Model (BIM) the Autodesk Revit product line provides very powerful 3D data modeling tools. The latest product Revit Structure especially supports the structural engineer with an independently editable analytical model for efficient analysis, design, and documentation. Tools for reinforcement drafting and an interface to external programs are provided.

The Interface to SOFiSTiK

The SOFiSTiK Interface for Autodesk® Revit® Structure provides a seamless integration of FE analysis with all features of the SOFiSTiK software package. Automatic FE meshing, using one of the most powerful 3D meshgenerators, can be started directly from Revit Structure to allow quick system changes of the calculation model. The following elements are currently implemented:

  • Slabs, walls and columns
  • All families containing an analytical model
  • Point-, line- and area loading
  • Load cases
  • Suppport conditions
  • Grids

Immediate review of the structural model is possible starting ANIMATOR and WinGRAF directly from Revit. The system can then be integrated into a SOFiSTiK Structural Desktop (SSD) project to perform further analysis and design steps. The modification of the model is also possible using SOFiSTiK´s AutoCAD add on SOFiPLUS.
